Getting More Dental Reviews Without Being Pushy

October 22, 2026

People check reviews before they pick a dentist. Plenty of happy patients never leave one — not because they are angry, but because nobody asked. You end up looking thinner online than the care you actually deliver, and a few negative reviews loom larger than they should.

Asking feels awkward. Timing is awkward. Platforms have rules about incentives. Replies have to protect privacy. None of that is a reason to leave reviews to chance.

If the review profile stays thin, new patients often choose the office that looks busier online. One rough review carries more weight when there is little else next to it.

For scale, an example: two extra new patients a month from a clearer review profile is 24 a year. Use your own new-patient value.

What tends to work without getting weird:

  • Ask every patient the same way, shortly after a good visit, with a direct link.
  • Follow the platform rules. Do not pay for reviews. Do not only ask the people you expect to be glowing if the platform bans that.
  • Reply to every review. Thank people. Never confirm someone is a patient or discuss treatment in public.
  • Move complaints offline. Invite the person to call the office.
  • If you use a reputation tool, treat it as a reminder machine — staff still own the ask and the reply.

Consistency beats charm.
